Google Enhances Search With Additional Information About Websites

Google has tweaked its search for desktop that offers more information about certain websites. The new feature will present the name of a source of additional information about a particular website or organisation, such as Wikipedia. “You’ll see this extra information when a site is widely recognized as notable online, when there is enough information to show or when the content may be handy for you”, posted Bart Niechwiej, Software Engineer in a company blog.

By clicking on the link, additional information about the website from that source will appear alongside the result. Bart says that the information that will surface in the search result will be based on the Google’s Knowledge Graph. However, the additional information will not be provided by Google for all the sites but only for those that are “widely recognized as notable online”.

Google is bringing this feature only to desktop users for now and there is no word if it will roll out it on mobile any time soon. The feature will help users to stop clicking from malicious sites.  Also, it will help Google get more clicks than usual. The tech giant also said that it will keep expanding this Knowledge Graph further.

Google’s Knowledge Graph was the main reason that Wikipedia lost 10% of page views in 2013.
